Sorry for the timing, but just stumbled across this. I am the guy in the UK who developed the product, & can confirm we are still making it, in larger quantities than we have ever done. £/$ makes business for us difficult in the US at the moment, which is part of the reason that the supply to Vitalus ceased.

Wow, that's harsh, to put it lightly. Bold Rush is a tremendous product and an inspirational business success story as well. I'm sure that there's a greater reason for all of this occurring; you'll come out twice as strong in the next round!

I'd personally find it helpful if you had more blog posts just like this, simply documenting your adventures in business. For those of us also just starting out, your advice and experience are tremendously valuable.

It's fantastic that the Yukon Made Store did so well for itself over Christmas and is still operating to this day. There's a lot of buzz about the store around Whitehorse.

Thanks Dennis. I looked for the figure, but went from memory. I should have asked you. But since I made a mistake, I just get to edit it, right? (Is that legitimate in the blogshere? Only the cached pages will remember...)

But I never meant to imply that a big savvy media company couldn't be from the north.

I think like Anthony said, we slide into automatic self-deprecations way too fast. I know that OutCrop was key to all this. After all, White Pass and Coast Mountain started here too.

Hi Lawrie:

Wanted to correct a couple of things, the Pan-Northern National Marketing Campaign is valued at $5 million not $10 million and one of those savvy big media companies is Outcrop Communications (based in Yellowknife and includes Outcrop Yukon and Outcrop Nunavut). The partnership included a number of northern companies, with a southern partner.

The question of differentiation is a good one. I think this has been a struggle for some time in the Yukon. I look forward to your thoughts in the weeks to come.

Hey Lawrie,

I picked up on a small part of that article. When it comes to this idea of "supporting oursleves" I find that Yukoners have some kind of inferiority complex that seems to be driven by this idea that we are just mooches living off southern transfers or federal taxes. What a bunch of b---s---, I say!

To imply we have no worth is ridiculous. What is sovereignty worth? What is our land worth? What about all the resources -- not just minerals, forests and oil and gas but also things like natural environments, wildlife, clean water, and so on? What are they worth? What about all the hard-working, passionate, skilled people who work and live up here?

I bet if you put Yukon on the open market right now somebody like China or the United States would pay trillions for it without even a moment's hesitation. I bet they would see a clear value to it, just like the rest of Canada does.

Just like you maintain a property or a factory, I figure all those federal dollars are just maintaining a very substantial asset, one that is important now and will become even more important in Canada's future. I don't think the rest of Canada begrudges it and we need to stop kicking ourselves for it.

Sorry to go off on a bit of a tangent. Lots of food for thought in your article!

Regards,
Anthony
